Climate Change Reforms
Some think that climate change reforms will negatively affect business. Others feel they are an opportunity for businesses.
Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.
Whether policies to address climate change can adversely affect businesses has been a topic of public interest. In this essay, I will discuss both views and present why I believe that the benefits of these reforms in terms of increased business opportunities outweigh any perceived drawbacks.
There are evidently adverse bearings on companies if policies are enacted to tackle global warming. A major downside is the gradual disappearance of conventional markets for businesses producing disposables and traditional product packaging. As consumers refuse to make purchases under government mandates, these companies will likely have to either make sharp cutbacks or go out of business. Other businesses potentially suffering economic losses are agrochemical manufacturers whose products are pest killers, weed controls, or fertilizers. Since these chemicals will likely be prohibited due to their negative impacts on the environment, businesses producing them would have to either switch to using more eco-friendly substitutes or declare bankruptcy.
Nonetheless, there are rewards that enterprises can reap thanks to climate change policies. Firstly, an increasing number of forward-looking, environmentally conscious corporations are promoting renewable energies, gradually undermining fossil fuels. This can be evidenced in many local firms adopting solar energy and harnessing hydropower and wind to generate electricity, offering economic opportunities for their immediate communities. The second merit is that companies can diversify their products. For instance, packaging manufacturers worldwide can produce and promote green alternatives such as reusable canvas shopping bags at the expense of traditional plastic, disposable ones.
In conclusion, despite marginal drawbacks, I believe global warming reforms are a positive step forward for they would create new markets for renewable energies and environmentally-friendly products. Government subsidies are advisable to assist the transition towards a greener future.
