Writing Task 2

TASK 2 (AGREE OR DISAGREE): CLASSROOM CHANGING FOREVER

The typical teaching situation between students and teachers in the classroom will be gone by the year 2050. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer

It has been widely argued that the typical student–teacher classroom dynamics as of now will have completely disappeared by the year 2050. While I believe that conventional knowledge transfer involving fact delivery and a teacher-led methodology will have become largely outdated by then, the objectives of learning, including the cultivation of key skills and tailored student attention, will continue to prevail.

There are legitimate arguments supporting the eventual obsolescence of a conventional student–teacher relationship by 2050. As of today, technological advancements, such as remote learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), have already revolutionised the traditional classroom, greatly facilitating individualised learning, proactive knowledge acquisition, and personal research. Assuming a continued pace of development, the educational landscape is projected to see radical differences in the way knowledge is imparted within the classroom by 2050. A natural progression may be even more advanced AI-powered systems preparing curricula and lesson plans, and robot teachers delivering facts and theoretical points to an even wider student audience. This projected scenario, if true, would mean that conventional fact-delivering and teacher-oriented classrooms will be rendered obsolete, and students are also expected to receive lessons regardless of their whereabouts and without knowing who their teachers are.

However, despite a legitimate natural projection of the year 2050, there are certain indispensable elements of the classroom. Chief among those is the cultivation of critical thinking skills and analytical reasoning, which can only be acquired through a series of teacher-led and peer-interaction activities. Granted, algorithms can be far more effective in the accumulation and presentation of facts; however, human teachers are far superior in organising the classroom based on student levels, catering to individual student needs, and addressing unexpected issues within the classroom setting. An instructive example would be a multi-level classroom or one for disabled children; it is safe to assume that the use of technology alone cannot rectify inherent problems and achieve desirable outcomes.

Furthermore, a typical classroom always includes formal examinations and standardised tests. Without teachers, it would be far more challenging for students to prepare for such exams, as they need not only motivation but also discipline to bring about positive academic outcomes.

In conclusion, despite valid scenarios of radically different educational settings by the year 2050 in terms of outdated fact-delivery and teacher-led methods, the essence of learning will still remain. This is because information accumulation and theory presentation can be executed by algorithms, whereas tailored learning and essential skill teaching are best handled by human teachers who are trained to be empathetic and compassionate.
