Some people think that a good diet and regular exercise are not necessary for a healthy and long life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer
There has been a contentious debate as to what factors constitute a life of good health and long-lastingness. In response to this, a school of thought holds that a well-rounded, balanced diet coupled with frequent exercising is sufficient to attain good health and longevity. I also hold this view since this is a classical case of essential versus sufficient.
Comprehensive dieting and regular fitness engagement are indeed conducive to lowering the chances of contracting preventable or treatable diseases. Frequently engaging in diverse fitness-related regimes—such as swimming, bodybuilding, and Pilates—can contribute to diminished body fat percentages, increased muscle mass, and improved stamina, among other tangible benefits. Such dividends can translate into a reduced likelihood of cardiovascular diseases, including obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Added to this is the mental health upside, as exemplified in heightened levels of positive chemicals—such as dopamine and oxytocin—often experienced after a satisfying workout, thereby giving rise to effective stress relief and mental clarity. In addition to this, a salubrious, well-rounded dieting regimen accompanying regular workouts cannot be overstated. With such diet plans, the already well-trained individuals can optimize nutrient intakes, abstain from processed foods, and consume more organic choices, thereby further consolidating the aforementioned benefits.
However, dieting and exercising routines alone are far from being sufficient for good health and increased life expectancy. In fact, there is a multitude of reasons causing health destabilization, chronic illnesses, and untimely demise rather than treatable diseases—those that can be prevented by adopting a well-balanced eating regime and consistent fitness activity. Therefore, to say that lifestyle choices can dictate health and life expectancy is an oversimplification, ignoring other causes, such as genetic inclinations, accidents, and novel diseases. Take, for example, a person with heritable cancer inclinations. Even with consistent fitness regimes and science-based food intakes, he or she would still arguably face a higher risk of cancer compared to others who are not genetically predisposed to carcinogens. To make matters worse, unexpected accidents, as unfortunate as this increasingly chaotic world can be, can prompt untimely deaths despite having the most well-structured lifestyles. Last but not least, novel viruses, such as Sars-Covi-2, also known as Covid-19, could claim lives of even the strongest, fittest, and most consistent of gym-goers, dieters, or swimmers.
In conclusion, I believe that adopting a healthy lifestyle, characterized by a structured diet and exercise regime, is of paramount importance to safeguard the public against preventable illnesses. Nevertheless, only adhering to such guidelines alone is no guarantee for the so-called “healthy and long life” since there are other factors at play that can destabilize and terminate lives prematurely, including hereditary factors, accidents, and novel diseases.
