Writing Task 1

Map of an industrial area

The maps illustrate an industrial area in Norbiton in the present day compared with plans for future development of the site.

Map of an industrial area

The provided maps depict the current blueprint of an industrial area in Norbiton and its future design.

From an overall perspective, it is evident that the area is planned to undergo a transformation, becoming more residential and less industrial, with improved accessibility and increased amenities related to healthcare, education, entertainment, and commerce. However, this development may come at the expense of the natural landscape.

With regard to the general landscape and transport network, the agricultural land to the north of the area is expected to remain relatively unaltered. The central roundabout is planned to be extended northward, which will require the separation of the existing river to the south of the agrarian land. The main roundabout will also branch off to the northwest, and the road network will add another mini roundabout to enhance transport links further southward.

In terms of other infrastructure and amenities, the future roads are likely to be lined with houses, replacing the current factories in the heavily industrial area. Between the two roundabouts, shops and a healthcare centre will be constructed. Additionally, the road running towards the east away from the town will likely see the addition of a playground and a school at the easternmost location.
